Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Way back in December my mom, my husband I went to see “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.

We had all been interested in seeing it since it came out but since my husband and I were out of the country when it opened we didn’t get to see it right away.

I saw this film just a few days after “Rogue One:  A Star Wars Story” and I did like this one more than I did “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.

It is worth nothing that love them or hate them both “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” are money grabs. These stories don’t need to be told to fulfill the franchises they come from so it all comes down to execution to make them seem important. That is where this film is more successful than “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” was.

The movie is very good, but not great. Obviously it operates within the Harry Potter universe and let’s be honest that’s the biggest reason people wanted to see it. It’s great fun to see all the magic again and there is just enough character development to get you invested.

However, it does lack the same level of investment one had with the Harry Potter films but it would be difficult to recreate that. After all by the time “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2” came out in 2011 there had been 7 books and prior movies to get people invested. I think that this film did a good job of setting up a news series of films and it was done well enough that I would see future Fantastic Beasts film in the future and most likely in the theater.

The performances were solid. Eddie Redmayne continues to show he can do it all as Newt. Colin Farrell continues his impressive comeback with his supporting role here. My favorite character and performance was Fine Frenzy as Queenie.

I absolutely adored Queenie, in many ways she reminded me of Luna from original Harry Potter series.

The movie is no longer in theatres but if you’re still interested and you didn’t make it out to see late last year it is worth certainly worth checking on DVD.

After a lifetime of being a strong type A personality, Terri is forced to confront the reality of the end of her marriage. As they hit the road, with Terri’s children in tow, they find themselves forced to rely on and confide in each other following a devastating event.
